Family Trip 2013: Day 3

We entered the beautiful state of Arizona on Sunday.  Our first stop was at the Petrified Forest National Park. The Painted Desert portion of the scenic drive was awe inspiring with hills layered in purple, pink, and red rock.
Where are we going today?
We stopped at most of the viewpoints.  Every time we said we were done, we would see another sign promising another great view, and we just had to stop.

Anna was awake for the first part of the drive, and we took her out every time, but she fell asleep on one of the long stretches, so we stopped less, and when we did, Zachary and I took turns getting out.

The chunks and logs of petrified wood appeared suddenly, and then it seemed to be everywhere!  Large chunks of “forest” were scattered on the desert floor.

Our next stop was at Meteor Crater. This was a more expensive attraction, but I was glad to see the crater, even if they were overcharging (in my opinion).  According to the brochure, it is large enough to fit 20 football fields in the bottom.  The wind was incredible. I held tightly onto Anna -- very tightly.

We took a family picture from the top, and we are definitely windblown!

From there, we drove to Flagstaff where we had dinner before driving to Grand Canyon National Park.  We stayed in Tusayan which is just outside the park. It was already dark, so we were eager for the morning!

I nominate "Passing time with a book" as photo of the day here!

Did you feel like pinching yourself to prove that you were actually viewing some evidence of God's rich mercy toward us?!
